track day p3
sharing the track
This is what makes many people hesitant to
participate, but as long as you properly observe the rules that
are set out with regards to overtaking and being overtaken,
it's a piece of cake. There were no collisions all afternoon
(in fact they're rare) and there was a mutual respect between
fast and slow cars and drivers alike. Honestly, the most stressful
thing might have been making sure my car was holding together
during all that redlining and throttle-steering! I had one of
the slowest cars out there, but I kept an eye on the mirrors,
and on my prompt signal, faster cars overtook with no drama
whatsoever.

I shared the track with some very fast motors
not crashing
The best advice is to drive at a level
you're comfortable with, and really try to understand
what the car is doing underneath you. Don't even worry about
the whole competitive angle, or trying to keep up - a Lamborghini
Gallardo will be faster than me no matter what I do, so I didn't
feel under any pressure in that regard. Besides, he always waited
until I signalled before he shot past.
Start off a bit slow for the first few
laps to familiarise yourself and warm up the car, then build
up your speed gradually. That way you can compare what's
going on under you from one lap to the next, and get a sense
for when you - or your car - can push no harder. Once you've
reached that point, simply enjoy the day and the interaction
between yourself and your motor.
Before you're unleashed in your own car though,
you'll be briefed on the ideal braking points,
cornering lines, and exit points. In addition, boards
will be posted along the entire circuit for each corner,
indicating where you should brake, turn in and finally, straighten
out and apply full throttle.
